In the middle of the summer holidays, another online rapid tournament of top world players is taking place. Fortunately, it is played more or less in the same way as the previous three, so the spectator (and finally not even the participants) does not have to constantly study the ever-changing regulations. Nevertheless, this fourth tournament in the series differs in some respects. This time, stars of the past were invited, and former world champions and runners-up are also playing in the tournament. I was very curious how the ‚oldies‘ – as Sergej Shipov jokingly calls the older players – would perform! How they would cope with the time control of 15 minutes per game with a 10-second increment, but especially the immediate armageddon if the mini-match ends in a draw.
In the Diary, I focused on an instructive game between the current number three and four by rating, but no less important is the choice of the opening. Do you have trouble breaking through the Caro-Kann Defence? And conversely, for Black's supporters: do you know the relatively new tricky development system that White used in the game?...
