Expert articles are disappearing before our eyes, while videos are increasing almost geometrically.<\/p>\n<p><em>I will not<\/em> in this introduction to the VIDEOS section <em>analyse<\/em> <em>the benefits<\/em> or conversely <em>the harm<\/em> <em>of videos as such<\/em>, but I will allow myself to suggest at the outset a parallel <strong>article<\/strong> versus <strong>video<\/strong> a\u00a0<strong>novel<\/strong> versus <strong>film<\/strong>. If a film based on a book is brilliantly made, most viewers appreciate it. But where is the analogy broken?<\/p>\n<p>If we see a well-made film story based on a book, there are quite a few intelligent viewers who then \u201aadditionally\u2018 get the book and read it. Where does the parallel end? Imagine if Hollywood decided to cram a novel bestseller like Styron's <em>Sophie's Choice<\/em> into a film lasting \u2013 say \u2013 20 minutes (today many Americans would no longer be surprised even by a cartoon version or the even more likely portrayal of the main heroine as African American, as already happens in film adaptations of Romeo and Juliet or Henry VIII). But unfortunately, this is exactly what happens with most videos!<\/p>\n<p>So I will dare to advise visitors to these websites: <strong>If, for example, you are preparing to study a new opening or variation thoroughly, never rely <em>only<\/em> about training videos!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Horrors of the present<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>A shocking example I witnessed is the following video titled (translated) \u201eLearn the Scotch in 10 minutes\u201c<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0412\u044b\u0443\u0447\u0438 \u0428\u043e\u0442\u043b\u0430\u043d\u0434\u0441\u043a\u0443\u044e \u0437\u0430 10 \u043c\u0438\u043d\u0443\u0442! || \u0414\u0435\u0431\u044e\u0442 \u0437\u0430 10 \u043c\u0438\u043d\u0443\u0442 #2\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lq7xDBeDgZM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I remember that when I was a young lad in the second half of the 70s teaching the same opening, studying it took me rather 10 weeks than 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>Here I dare, forgive me - I simply cannot resist inserting a short segment from an American comedy (unlike the almost comical chess video, successful) There's Something About Mary (1998) with the beautiful Cameron Diaz in the leading role.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-579-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/skolasachu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/neco-na-te-mary-je-1998.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/skolasachu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/neco-na-te-mary-je-1998.mp4\">https:\/\/skolasachu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/neco-na-te-mary-je-1998.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>In the place of IM Matvej Gal\u010denko, I would seriously worry whether someone, using even faster speech and omitting even more essential variations, could manage to explain the problems of the Scotch Game in <strong>nine minutes<\/strong>...<\/p>\n<p>Let us now look <em>carefully<\/em>, at what significant points the author <em>in his 10 minutes<\/em> omitted and neglected even from the perspective of not very experienced chess players.<\/p>\n<h4><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/share.chessbase.com\/SharedGames\/frame\/?p=JFPKIlKG9+xgqyp96hiWjizOPIInccjv7ynfVoHTWiUR+zzFsjbLQYp7Wwv3qA2z\" width=\"900px\" height=\"600px\"><\/iframe><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Czech videos<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Let's venture into Czech realms: somewhat higher quality videos are offered on Youtube by the chess school \u201aRobert and Petr\u2018. The crucial point is the order of moves <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>5.Nbd2<\/strong><\/span>. After <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>6.dxc5<\/strong> <\/span>(1\/2 \/33\/ Carlsen,Magnus \/2863\/ - Ding,Liren \/2791\/ online rapid 2020) completely different positions arise in character, but above all deep knowledge of specific variations is required! Yes, Black can after 5.Nbd2 use a different move order and play <strong>5...cxd4 6.exd4<\/strong> and only now <strong>6...Qb6<\/strong>, even then these are positions that are worlds apart from those shown in the video. So, what is this video actually for? You watch it, use the variation, and\u2026 most likely <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>5.Nbd2<\/strong><\/span> you can at best remember the author's unfinished work with resentment. The video simply does not follow a concept, in other words \u201avideo for video\u2018. Well, this is quite typical for today's obsession with chess videos. <strong>Because<\/strong> in the vast majority of cases <strong>we cannot<\/strong> for example study an opening <strong>continuously<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Quality study material<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>I will allow myself to insert a link here to an article <em>a true chess theoretician<\/em> GM Alexey Kuzmin. Those of you who understand Russian will surely appreciate the difference in the work of the two authors! When you study Kuzmin's article, you gain a truly perfectly honed and modern weapon against the London threat.
